Packing room by room is the most efficient approach to preparing for a move. It keeps you organized, prevents items from different areas getting mixed up, and allows you to prioritize essential spaces.
Start with rooms you use least — guest bedrooms, storage areas, and seasonal item closets. Leave daily-use spaces like the kitchen and master bedroom for last. This ensures you maintain normal household function for as long as possible.
In the kitchen, pack non-essential items first — specialty appliances, extra cookware, and pantry staples you won't need before moving day. Wrap each dish individually and pack plates vertically. Use original boxes for small appliances when available.
For bedrooms, use wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes to avoid wrinkling. Pack folded clothing in medium boxes lined with packing paper. Keep jewelry and personal items in a separate bag you'll carry personally.
Living room packing requires patience. Remove batteries from remotes, disconnect cables and label them, and wrap electronics in bubble wrap. Books should go in small boxes — they're deceptively heavy and large boxes become impossible to lift.
Bathroom items need sealed bags to prevent leaks. Pack toiletries in zip-lock bags within boxes. Discard expired products and open containers you won't need.
Label every box with room name, general contents, and handling instructions. Number boxes and maintain a corresponding list for easy reference during unpacking.
